Fat Mum Slim Photo-a-day- July photo challenge

its the first day of July, a new month and a new start for many things. i tried to do this in june but i was thrown a curve ball in life, and lots of work at work so my camera seemed to be forgotten in the day to day living.
i have decided to play along again with Fat Mum Slim's photo a day Challenge for the month of July. in this yucky Melbourne weather it might inspire me to get my camera out each day, something i haven't been doing of late (as you can probably tell due to the few and far between posts)

the start of july is alos the start of two weeks school holidays.
we are at the snow for the two weeks, so although it will be tiring and not overly relaxing i am looking forward to hanging out with family and a few friends.

a winters day in Melbourne

today was a beautiful Winters day in Melbourne, crisp and cold but a beautiful blue sky.
I snaped this photo in East Melbourne on the way to an appointment.

Literally 2 minutes from home is a state forest with a creek running through it. it was area that was mined in the gold rush and there are still shafts and tunnels in the area. the forest is a place i never think of when finding something to do on the weekends, but John was on it today and thought that we should go gold panning. the boys (and I) were excited. we met up with friends there and set to it. no luck but lots of fun.
we then decided to explore the forest. there is an old tunnel that you can still walk some of the way in, and lots of mine shafts (boarded up) to look at. the boys were in heaven, running in the forest exploring, hiding, building cubbies and having a great time. we found mushrooms, moss and wild flowers. the boys enjoyed taking us in the forest. ( a dear friend of ours picks the boys up from school on a Wednesday and he will often take them into the forest for a picnic or to find fossils, kangaroos, wildflowers and mushrooms. they have a forest book that they draw and write in, so they really enjoyed sharing some of their knowledge with us today).
once we arrived back at the creek a quick drive to the local fish and chip shop for fish and chips by the creek ended a great day. and then a quick wet drive home after "falling" in the creek and mud for a nice warm shower.

nothing better than a batch of freshly baked Yo Yo's for morning tea on a Sunday.
( i think i ate the most but my excuse... i had just run 12 km !!!)

Mothers Day

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

a day trip to mum and dads at the beach.
the weather was cold and we sat around their large table enjoying lunch together.
as we finished the clouds parted and we managed to get outside, down the beach for a play.
there was running races, walks along the pier, drawing in the sand, hopscotch and lots of laughs.
